Christmas light and permanent lighting software compared

How to choose

Six questions that narrow the list.

  1. Who measures the roofline

Measured Bid measures it from the address. LightQuoter and QuoteIQ have you trace it on a satellite map. GlowBid, C9X PRO, Holiday Home Concepts and Strandr measure on a photo of the house. Jobber and Housecall Pro need the footage from somewhere else.

  2. A picture of the lit house

GlowBid, C9X PRO, Holiday Home Concepts, Strandr and LightQuoter draw the lights on the house. Measured Bid and QuoteIQ show the measured runs and the price.

  3. Christmas lights, permanent, or both

Most of these quote both. Holiday Home Concepts charges $40 a month more for permanent lights. Measured Bid prices both from the same roofline, with a controller fee for permanent installs.

  4. The whole season after the sale

Takedown dates, crews, invoices and renewals: LightQuoter, QuoteIQ, Jobber and Housecall Pro schedule and collect payments. Measured Bid and Strandr leave that to another tool.

  5. Cost for your season

Yearly plans run $197 (Strandr) to $1,080 (Holiday Home Concepts). Monthly plans let a seasonal business pay only for the months it quotes; check each vendor's cancellation terms.

  6. A price on your website

Measured Bid shows homeowners a lighting price range on your website. QuoteIQ does it on Elite at $299.99 a month.

What Measured Bid is, and what it isn't

What it does

  • Measures the roofline from an address for the front, the front and sides, or all the way around, with optional peaks.
  • Prices Christmas lights and permanent lighting per foot by story, with takedown, customer-supplied lights and a controller fee.
  • Shows homeowners a lighting price range on your website and sends you the lead with the measured runs.
  • Prices gutters and fascia from the same roofline.

What it isn't

  • It doesn't draw lights on a photo of the house.
  • It doesn't schedule installs or takedowns, invoice or take payments; leads go to your CRM.
  • Peak lengths on complex roofs are estimated, and the estimate says so.
  • Confirm the layout, power and access on site before the install.

FAQ

What is the best Christmas light installation software?

It depends on how you sell. To quote from the address without tracing, Measured Bid. To trace the roofline on a satellite map, LightQuoter (free) or QuoteIQ. To sell with a picture of the lit house, GlowBid, C9X PRO, Holiday Home Concepts or Strandr. To run crews, invoices and payments after the sale, Jobber or Housecall Pro.

Is there free Christmas light quoting software?

LightQuoter has a free plan with every feature; it takes 2% of payments collected through it, and Pro ($497 a year) removes that fee. Measured Bid's Christmas light calculator measures a roofline and prices it from an address for free.

How do these tools measure the roofline?

Measured Bid reads aerial roof data for the address and measures the runs for you. LightQuoter and QuoteIQ have you click along the roofline on a satellite map. GlowBid, C9X PRO, Holiday Home Concepts and Strandr measure on a photo of the house after you set a known length. Jobber and Housecall Pro don't measure.

Does the same software quote permanent lighting?

Measured Bid prices both, with a controller fee for permanent installs. GlowBid, C9X PRO and Strandr design and price permanent lighting too, and Holiday Home Concepts adds permanent lights for $40 a month more. LightQuoter lists permanent work among the jobs it quotes.

What is MapMeasure?

MapMeasure Pro is QuoteIQ's satellite measuring tool. Its Linear Mode draws lines for runs like rooflines, gutters and fences and saves the length to an estimate line. It comes with QuoteIQ's Beginner plan and up, from $99.99 a month.

Do I need a design mockup to sell lights?

Many installers show one. GlowBid, C9X PRO, Holiday Home Concepts, Strandr and LightQuoter draw lights on the house. Measured Bid shows the measured runs and a price, without a picture of the lit house.

Can homeowners get a lighting price on my website?

Yes, with Measured Bid's widget, which measures the homeowner's roofline and shows a price range with your rates, or with QuoteIQ's InstaQuote on its Elite plan at $299.99 a month.
